Our Story

At Brownsville United Methodist Church our mission is:

Declaring and Demonstrating God’s Boundless Love For All

Brownsville United Methodist Church has deep roots in the heart of our community, tracing its beginnings to 1951 when a handful of local families began gathering for worship in the Brownsville Grange Hall. Out of those humble meetings grew a faith community built on friendship, hope, and a desire to serve. In 1956, the congregation quite literally brought their vision to life—transporting the decommissioned Seabeck schoolhouse by barge across the water and setting it down on the site we still call home today.

Our building carries the character of its history, yet our spirit looks forward with openness and imagination. Over the decades, Brownsville UMC has evolved with the changing times, welcoming new generations, new questions, and new expressions of faith. When the COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges none of us expected, we found creative ways to stay connected—worshiping online, supporting one another, and continuing to serve our neighbors. Through it all, God’s grace has carried us, reminding us that the Church is not defined by walls but by the love we share.

Today, Brownsville UMC is a place of belonging for all who seek community, compassion, and a deeper sense of purpose. Since the pandemic, our congregation has been growing, and most of our members and returning friends would still probably consider themselves “new” to the church—a beautiful reminder that renewal is part of our DNA. We are a community rediscovering what it means to be the church together. We invite you to be part of the next chapter—come as you are, bring your story, and discover what God is doing here in Brownsville. Together, we’ll continue building a church that honors our past while joyfully embracing the future though worship, service, music, laughter, and fellowship.
